Bizarre military drill by semi-naked soldiers
South Korean Special Forces brave bitterly icy waters in a test of strength and endurance.
More than 200 Golden Bat Special Forces braved freezing weather conditions to jump into the ice-cold water to test their endurance skills in Pyeongchang on Tuesday.
As part of their winter training, the soldiers stripped off their shirts through frozen fields near Heonggye and rubbed handfuls of snow across their chests.
"We're strongly armed with drills which can immediately cope with the enemy under any extreme circumstances. We will protect our country with our sweat and be our army's best Special Forces," said Master Sergeant Chung Kwan-seung from the Golden Bat Special Forces.
South Korean army has pledged to be prepared for any possible "provocations" from North Korea.
"The North has been preparing provocations while making gestures of reconciliation. Our army is trying to have a firm response against any provocations and will not be fooled by the North's reconciliation gestures," said South Korean Army Chief of Staff Kim Sang-ki who observed the drills.
